How do you feel on this glorious day? (working title)

How do you feel on this glorious day?

Earlier in the year at the Magdalena Perth Workshop Festival The Duck House presented a very early stage development of a new work with a long title. A 50-minute presentation at the Blue Room to many esteemed national artists took place on the 9th of February. We are hoping to continue working on the piece soon.  It’s hard to write a blurb for a work in such early stages of development, so here is a small list of things that are in the show:

Tiny furniture, sparkly things, a measuring tape, love letters, a disappearing act, outrageous amounts of pink, dancing (of course), a gun, 80’s, 50’s and 20’s nostalgia, a black hat and three toy mice.

We are currently planning a tour of Melbourne and Sydney for the second half of next year.  We are unable to reveal any dates or venues at this moment, but just to let you know we working hard to make the tour a reality. If negotiations succeed, we will be holding a fundraising event to help get us to the east coast, remounting the new version of the work around May 2011. All ticket sales to the event will go towards the tour and if anyone knows any keen sponsors, please email kathryn@theduckhouse.com.au

Skills development

The Duck House team are currently seeking out skills development opportunities for individual members and the company.

Now.
Gita Bezard has been successful in her application to The Australia Council for the Arts to attend a three-week workshop in Serbia working with Dah Theatre. Congratulations Gita!

Dah Theatre is an experimental theatre company that was formed by a collective of women in 1991. In 1993 they created the Theatre Research Centre to expand their work to include the running of workshops, seminars and festivals. The three-week workshop program is Dah Theatre’s annual International School for Actors (and Directors) and is described as “a new approach in which actors and directors will indulge in a creative process of physical and vocal training, creating materials, and through the process of montage, creating a performance.” The subject of the research for the workshop will be the history of Belgrade and the personal histories of the participants, and how those combined histories resonates today.

Alissa Claessens is attending a Swing Dance workshop in Sweden in July to extend her already awesome dancing skills.
